My Dad's Business Idea

My father has retired from working for a living therefore he plans to move back to Texas so he can be closer to his grandchildren and family. He brought up an idea for a new job for me in stringing and selling freshly made tropical leis as a revenue. Together we will order the flowers and I will make the the leis to sell. Great Idea, my dad thought of so that we can spend more time together.

Louisa May Alcott

Louisa May Alcott (November 29, 1832March 6, 1888) was an American novelist. She is best known for the novel Little Women, published in 1868. This novel is loosely based on her childhood experiences with her three sisters.

Through her writings and observing her picture, I noticed she looks very down to earth and hardworking.

I like the way she describes places and buildings.

I think she uses her family as an models for her characters.

Living in Maui

Many years ago I was employed at this hotel working upstairs directly above one of there three pools along with a lot of waterfalls, penguins and talking birds. There was a beautiful garden area with benches for people to sit and relax while shopping inside the hotel. When I left Maui to move back and be with my mother and my Texas family.

Yom Kippur

This holiday is the most important to me. My belief is to ask for god's forgiveness and promise there will be a better new beginning.

Jewish Calendar

Rosh Hashana

This particular holiday brings to all a new beginning because Rosh Hashanah (Hebrew: ראש השנה‎, literally "head of the year," Biblical: IPA: [ˈɾoʃ haʃːɔˈnɔh], Israeli: [ˈʁoʃ haʃaˈna], Yiddish: [ˈroʊʃ hɑˈʃɔnə]) is a Jewish holiday commonly referred to as the "Jewish New Year."

Rosh Hashanah is characterized by the blowing of the shofar,[10] a trumpet made from a ram's horn.

Rosh Hashanah meals often include apples and honey, to symbolize a sweet new year. Various other foods with a symbolic meaning may be served, depending on local minhag (custom), such as tongue or other meat from the head of an animal (to symbolize the head of the year). Other symbolic foods are dates, black-eyed beans, leek, spinach and gourd, all of which are mentioned in the Talmud. Pomegranates are used in many traditions: the use of apples and honey is a late medieval Ashkenazi addition, though it is now almost universally accepted. Typically, round challah bread is served, to symbolize the cycle of the year. Gefilte fish and Lekach are commonly served on this holiday.

At temple the seats are maroon with a soft velvet and very comfortable as you are listening to the sermon

Rabbi David Stern is Senior Rabbi of Temple Emanu-El, Dallas, Texas. He joined Temple Emanu-El in June of 1989, serving as Assistant and then Associate Rabbi until his appointment as Senior Rabbi in August, 1996.
